About Counselling

How can counselling help?

Counselling is a safe and confidential collaboration between a qualified counsellor and client to promote mental health and wellbeing, enhance self-understanding, and resolve identified concerns the client may be experiencing.

Counsellors are empathic professionals who have undergone specialised training to work with clients to establish positive working relationships to ensure their clients feel safe, understood, respected, and accepted without judgement.

My professional Counselling practice in Greenslopes is evidence based utilising empirically supported interventions and specialised interpersonal skills to facilitate change and empower clients to be self-determining.

Counselling sessions may be broad or very specific. It may involve exploring aspects of identity, spirituality, relationships with self and others, past experiences, parenting, grief, loss and bereavement, trauma, domestic violence, child abuse, depression, anxiety, and other tricky life experiences.

Life & the challenges it presents can be extraordinarily complex at times.

Whilst we cannot control many situations we find ourselves in, we can take control of how we respond and how we choose to show up in the face of adversity. I firmly believe that life is not about WHAT happens to you, it’s about HOW you respond to it, and how you get back up after a setback. It’s about recovering from adversity and integrating what you’ve learned to cultivate the best version of yourself possible, in the life you have.

Most of us juggle a variety of responsibilities and roles, the busy-ness of life itself leaves many of us feeling exhausted, stressed and burnt out. When additional stress or trauma is added, everyday life activities can become taxing.

Counselling can assist by unpacking exactly what’s not working, and help you to develop new strategies with which to move forward. It can help you identify and cultivate your inner wisdom and authentic power and guide you to build resilience.

Maybe you’ve experienced something that’s left you feeling devastated and broken, and not knowing how to move forward, or even how to envisage what moving forward looks like? For some people, this can be extremely daunting!

Has life not worked out the way you’d planned or wished?

Perhaps you struggle with anxiety, stress, or low self esteem?

Maybe you feel stuck? Or overwhelmed?

Has life thrown you a curve ball that has knocked you for six and you can’t see a way out?

Are you going through a life transition, divorce, or empty nest?

Are you experiencing difficulties with relationships, parenting, co-parenting, step family, work colleagues, a difficult ex or family member?

…or maybe you’re simply just not living your best life.

There are of course certain challenges that sometimes cannot be overcome or fixed, such as the loss of a loved one, a significant health diagnoisis or a natural disaster. Counselling can assist you to learn about acceptance for what cannot be changed, and empower you to move forward with.

Clarity, Purpose & Equanimity

Life rarely works out the way we plan or expect and this can bring great disappointment. Things just don’t stay the same, we, our environment, our circumstances, and what we know to be true are constantly changing and evolving. Change can represent excitement, delight and joy, or dread, disappointment and challenge.
